 What is a CSA?

CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture. This idea is relatively new to the US and came about in the 1980’s.  Members of the “community” commit their support to a farmer for the duration of the growing season.  In return, the farmer provides those members with products.

Community Supported Agriculture means eating with the seasons; you experience the growing season as the farmer does. You are eating what thrives as Spring moves into Summer, and Summer into Fall.   The products may change weekly.  Therefore, CSA members will be receiving healthy, fresh, and local farm products weekly, while also knowing the people & the farm that they are supporting.

Our members pay a fee upfront and receive a weekly basket/share containing a variety of produce from May to October (20 weeks).   The products may change weekly.  Members can also purchase shares for Beef, Pork, Poultry and Eggs for an additional charge.  Pick ups are scheduled in Lexington, Georgetown and Frankfort, Kentucky.

Why a CSA?

·        Studies have shown that eating a regional diet consumes 17 times less oil and gas than a typical diet based on food shipped across the country.

·        Local foods can be grown for taste, rather than to survive the abuse of shipping or industrial harvesting.

·        Fresh food just tastes better! Most local produce has been picked within 24 hours.

·        To have fresh, local, sustainable produce, we have to support our local farmers.  When you join a CSA, that’s exactly what you do!
